Well, this is my first foray into a personal blog. I figured with friends and family spread out across the country, this would be a good way to keep everyone filled in our lives! Adam is currently in Scottsdale working for Arizona Center for Cancer Care, which is keeping him very busy! He's holding down the fort at our new house, which we absolutely love.
I'm still down in Tucson finishing up the last year of my Master's degree program in speech-language pathology. I'm currently completing an internship at the Aphasia Center of Tucson, working with adults with aphasia (a language disorder resulting from damage to the language areas of the brain, usually from stroke or brain injury). It's been very interesting, but my heart is definitely in working with children. In December, I'll be moving up to Scottsdale with Adam, and in the spring I'll (hopefully) be starting an internship at a private clinic in Scottsdale. I'll have to commute down to Tucson twice a week for class, but it will be a good opportunity to catch up with my friends I've made in this SUPER intense program.
Onto our exciting news.
We're pregnant! We can both hardly believe it. In the beginning of the year, we sat down and decided October would be a good time to start trying, because if we got pregnant right away, I would be due well after graduation in May. I got off of birth control (after 13 years on it) in July and was pretty regular for two months. Adam came down to Tucson in September for his surprise birthday party, and we decided..why not! A few weeks later, my period was late and I took a pregnancy test, which came up negative. A few days later, still no period...still negative pregnancy test. I have been absolutely exhausted the past week and had horrible allergies. I woke up this morning just feeling generally unwell, and nauseous off and on throughout the day. I decided to take ANOTHER test tonight..and..surprise! Pregnant! I must have ovulated later than usual.
Unfortunately Adam is not down here with me, so I surprised him with the above picture in a text message and asked him to call me. We are both pleasantly surprised that it happened so quickly, and according to due date calendars online I'd be due anywhere between May 26-June 6, depending on when I actually ovulated. This will take me right through graduation, and then allow me to stay home for a few months before I begin my fellowship year and new job.
Jiggs is not sure what to think. He woke me up this morning by projectile vomiting bile everywhere, so maybe he had an idea.
I need to make an appointment with a doctor now I suppose..my friend Megan loved her doctor up in Scottsdale, and my other friend Megan who is also pregnant is going to the same doctor and really likes her, so I think I will give her a call and see if I can get in in the next few weeks. This is such a busy, exciting time in our lives and it is going to be SO HARD to not share this information with our friends and families until we've at least had one doctor's appointment.
